Bikers Diary

After riding many bikes in the '70's and 80's I went away from biking for many years. Chris gave me a go on his Kawasaki VN800 Chop/Bobber and I was hooked again. So this time I thought I've got to do it all legal this time, so booked my direct access course. In the meantime I bought a Kawasaki ZL600 Eliminator that had stood in a barn for over a year. I spent the winter stripping the bike down and doing my test. During January this year I got the bike M.O.T'd and on the road while passing my test, and I was on two wheels again! I rode this bike for a couple of months and really enjoyed the speed, but deep down wanted a V twin engined bike so set about a search for a suitable machine. After many wasted hours of searching and many hours of being messed about by people selling or allegedly selling bikes I found something local that fitted the bill. I sold the Kawasaki Eliminator to a friend and bought my 1996 Suzuki VS800 at the end of March. The bike was pretty much how I wanted it and the previous owner had done a great job with it. Custom metal flake paint job, stainless steel wheels & spokes, extended cissy bar, silvertail exhausts plus some extra chrome bits here and there. All I had to do was add the Apehanger handlebars, tweek the exhausts and the bike was just how I wanted it (for now)! I have spent the summer going back and forth to work and using it almost every weekend, so put about 3000 miles on it in the past 4 months and enjoyed every one of them. O.K got wet a few times especially on the way to a couple of bike rally's, but that seems normal this year.
